Delhi Mahila Congress held a "Save the Tree Campaign" at Hoshiyar Singh Marg near Sarojini Nagar on Tuesday. Hundreds of women party workers participated in the campaign to protest against the move to axe 16,500 trees for constructing Government flats in the Sarojini Nagar-Nauroji Nagar areas in the city.

Party workers seen tied protection bands around the trees having slogans such as "aao milker Dilli bachaye", "Mahila Congress ne awaaz uthai, ped bachane ki lado ladaai" etc.

Addressing the gathering, president of Delhi Mahila Congress Sharmistha Mukherjee said that both the BJP Government at the Centre and the AAP Government in Delhi are insensitive towards the deteriorating ecology and alarming rise in the pollution levels in Delhi which had crossed the dangerous levels in the recent months.

She said ever since the BJP came to power at the Centre and the AAP in Delhi, the green cover of Delhi has witnessed fast depletion due to the reckless felling of trees. "Instead of increasing green cover in the Capital, both the parties are busy in eroding the existing green cover of the city.
