The national Capital’s road and primary education systems were declared best among the top 20 cities in the country, according to the ABP News-IPSOS Best City Survey and Awards 2013 on Wednesday.

The awards, given for the first time, were based on surveys that scientifically evaluated cities with populations above 10 lakh on 13 parameters — including affordable housing, roads, public transport, cleanliness and sanitation and safety of women. Nagpur scored highest in the maximum number of parameters with top healthcare facilities, greenery and public transport to be awarded “the most liveable Indian city.”

The survey’s announcement was held in a function attended by prominent politicians including BJP president Rajnath Singh, former BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Manish Tewari, Praful Patel, and Deepa Dasmunshi, BJP leaders Shahnawaz Hussain, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anurag Thakur and Rameshwar Chaurasia, Congress MPs Sandeep Dikshit and Mahabal Mishra, Moti lal Vohra, RJD president lalu Prasad, SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav, Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh. Delhi Government’s Minister Arvinder Singh, AK Walia, Harun Yusuf, Kiran Walia, Raj Kumar Chauhan and all three mayors — Savita Gupta, Mira Agarwal and Annapurna Mishra, were also present.

Participating in the panel discussion, Dikshit said that by developing the villages, we (policy makers) would be able to stop migration to the city.
