Delhi Government is getting in loop the retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to ensure the security and safety of students in Delhi schools. The move has come in the wake of the heinous killing of a seven-year-old schoolboy at neighbouring Gurugram’s Ryan International school followed by a rape of a five-year-old girl at Tagore Public School in North-East Delhi.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday held a meeting with some members of the retired IPS association of Delhi to discuss the security and safety of children in Delhi schools. Earlier, the Government had planned to include the IPS officers and retired Army officers as estate mangers to plan a vision for each of its schools.
Sisodia, who also holds Education portfolio, urged IPS officers to come forward as a volunteer to guide the schools in the matters of upgrading its security measures in a meeting now.
An official said that the Minister is of the view that with the help of retired IPS officers, security and safety orientation programs can be run in schools with the participation of all teachers.
Sisodia also said that a neighborhood watch team can be created with retired IPS officers under which the officers can visit the schools near them and can advise the school management in connection with security.
The retired IPS association has assured full cooperation to the city Government.
The Government has also formed a high level committee comprising DoE (Directorate of Education) Director, transport team, school principals, and police personnel which will create proper procedures and provide recommendations on students security in schools. The Delhi Government has ordered a comprehensive police verification of staff, including the installation of CCTV cameras at all schools in the national Capital.
The Government wants to ensure that security of all the schools in the national Capital is fool proof. The services of retired IPS officers has been sought as they are experienced hands to suggest ways and means to the Government to secure the school campuses and the children, an official said.
