The Delhi Government’s school in Adarsh Nagar will now be renamed after its alumnus and Olympic medal winner Ravi Dahiya, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Tuesday.

Taking to the micro-blogging website, Sisodia tweeted: “Olympic medal winner Ravi Dahiya was today welcomed at his school in Adarsh Nagar. It was an emotional moment for his teachers. The Government has decided that the school will now be named as Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya.” Dahiya (23) made his debut in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and won a silver medal in wrestling. Dahiya is the second Indian to get a silver medal in wrestling at the Olympic. Sisodia felicitated the Olympian and said that through his hard work, a student of a Delhi Government school has now become a youth icon for the nation. Olympian Dahiya said that the Delhi Government consistently supported him to help him win the Olympic medal.

“The Delhi Government’s financial assistance had been there even before his selection to the Olympics and it did not stop even during the pandemic. It is a matter of great pride that an alumnus of a Delhi Government school has won an Olympic medal for India,” Sisodia said.“A large portrait of Ravi Dahiya will also be installed in this school so that young children are inspired and motivated to have an Olympic dream and bring glory to our great nation,” Sisodia added.

He said, “Players who bring medals for India get showered with rewards and financial assistance but the Delhi Government is providing support to players who are in their phase of struggle. By assisting the players during the course of their training the Delhi Government is helping them win medals.”
