Delhi court reprimands police for inaction, asks for impartial probe

Taking strong exception to the “inaction” of the police in lodging FIR and delay in carrying out proper investigation in Delhi Jal Board (DJB) vandalism case filed by DJB vice- chairman Raghav Chadha, a Delhi court through its order dated March 1 ordered the Delhi Police to carry out investigation in an impartial manner to unearth the truth.

The court had directed the SHO of DeshBandhu Gupta road police station to file an action taken report in this matter with respect to the course of investigation, the AAP said in a statement.

Upon hearing the arguments on the status report advanced by advocate  Prashant Manchanda, counsel for Chadha he specifically mentioned the grave inaction,  the learned MM observed in his order dated February 15 that the CCTV footage and videos of the incident reflected that more than five person in the mob crossed over broke the barricades, iron gates and glass gates of DJB yet FIR under appropriate sections was not lodged, it said.

Consequently, vide its order dated February, a detailed report was sought from concerned DCP putting specific explanations from him to the effect as why appropriate sections have not been added and why no witness present at the spot was examined for one month.

Shocked at the absurd FIR registered in this case, the court also observed that the FIR has been lodged in extremely frivolous section of Epidemic act which is completely misleading and oblivious to the actual incident, it said, adding that in the interest of justice, the court has now directed the Police officials to conduct and free and impartial probe in the present matter and urged the police officials to mend their ways and carry out the investigation strictly by the procedure laid down.
