Delhi Chief Secretary DM Spolia on Tuesday visited Connaught Place to take stock of the much-delayed development project. He strictly told Engineers India ltd to complete the Rs 600-crore project at the earliest.
The Chief Secretary warned the executing agency of punitive action if it failed to do so. Sources said the Government was totally unhappy with the contractor for ‘unexplained delays’ in the project which as per original agreement was to be completed before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games in October 2010.
They said the Government was seriously considering slapping financial penalty on the contractor as it has missed series of deadlines in the last three years. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in a meeting on Monday had expressed her ‘displeasure’ about the delays in completing the project and told EIl to complete the project as soon as possible. Notably, the EIl has already missed six deadlines and the next date of completion has been fixed for June this year.
