The Delhi BJP too expressed indignation over the incident of rape of a 27-year-old woman by a registered cab driver in Delhi on late Friday night. In this context, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner suggesting that Delhi Police pickets should check taxis and other public transport vehicles operating during night hours and whenever women are found travelling alone, the police personnel should keep a record and tab the drivers.
The party urged Delhi Police as well as the Delhi Government to evolve a simple and free mobile application wherein any woman hiring a cab can send a free SMS to register her name, place of origin of journey with destination and the taxi/auto number. “After an anticipated travel time, Delhi Police should revert to women via SMS to know about the safe completion of journey and in case of complaint take immediate cognisance and locate the taxi driver,” wrote Upadhyay.
