Delhi BJP chief hosts lunch for galaxy of leaders

A day after announcing his new team in the run-up to the Assembly elections, Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel put up a show of strength in the Capital on Tuesday. The occasion was a get-together lunch organised by Goel and the message was clear.

The party appeared to throw all its weight behind the Delhi BJP in the upcoming elections, with presence of its top leadership that included national president Rajnath Singh, leaders of Opposition in both Houses Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, party MPs Shahnawaz Hussain and Chandan Mitra and general secretary (organisation) Ram lal, among others.

Playing the host, the Delhi BJP president could be seen having discussions with the national leaders, expected to be the party’s preparations for the ensuing polls.

Goel also took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, saying she was not sincere in her efforts to curb corruption. “She has never made any effort to end corruption. Instead, she has been patronising the corrupt in her Government. Despite being indicted by the Shunglu Committee, the lokayukta and various CAG reports, Dikshit has done little to fight graft,” Goel alleged.

Referring to the CM’s interview to an English daily, wherein she claimed that people approached her offering money for tickets in Assembly elections, Goel said, “Why did she not file a complaint, if she was sincere in her efforts to fight corruptionIJ”

Delhi BJP leaders — including new office-bearers — were also present in full strength. Party leaders Ashish Sood, Meera Aggarwal, Yogendra Chandolia and Amir Raza Hussain, among others, were present on the occasion.
