Delhi Assembly Monsoon Session from August 27

The Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly will be held from August 27 to August 30. “The Cabinet has recommended to the lt Governor to summon the session from August 27 to August 30,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said.

The Government is likely to bring a number of bills in the four-day-long session. Besides, the Cabinet has also given its nod for conservation and refurbishment of a monument, Azimganj Sarai, which is located in Delhi Zoological Park to Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC). The trust is already engaged in heritage conservation work of revitalising and unifying the three historical sites —Humayun’s Tomb, Nizamuddin Basti and Sunder Nursery —into one unique project.

The Cabinet has decided to enhance the ambit of ‘Jeevan project’ and make operational a Working Women’s Hostel at Rohini. The Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by the AKTC. The entire work is likely to be completed within 30 months.

This heritage precinct is adjoining the Azimganj Sarai monument. The monument is not included either in the list of 16 monuments on which the Delhi Chapter of the Indian National Trust For Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has been asked to do conservation and refurbishment work.

The total cost of conservation, refurbishment and illumination is expected to be around `3,56,21,791.

1,000 Jeevan centres soon

  • The number of Jeevan centres — the one-stop shops for various welfare schemes — will go up from existing 100 to 1,000. The Delhi Government officials said the number of Jeevan centres is being increased to ensure hassle-free delivery of services to the citizens and bring down the number of footfalls in Government offices. The Cabinet has given a go-ahead for appointing a private vendor to further streamline the services. The contract with the previous vendor had come to an end almost a year ago. It provides hassle-free services and freedom from travelling to different Government offices and waiting in queues apart from uniform access to services and facilities without digital divide. Currently, DJB, BSES, MTNl, IGl and NDPl services fall under the Government to citizen category.
  • A Working Women's Hostel at Rohini Sector 22 will be operational soon, which would provide accommodation to 100 working women. The hostel also has the facility of crèche for 30 children. The hostel would be operated and maintained for a period of three years on a no-profit no-loss basis by the YWCA of Delhi. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that the new hostel would be able to meet the demands of the working women seeking accommodation in such hostels in the Rohini area.
