Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has granted approval for an additional 29 establishments to operate round-the-clock within the city, marking a significant stride in the pursuit of 24x7 operational viability. With this, the total count of such establishments approved by Saxena during the past year has reached 498.
The capital had experienced a prolonged lull in granting such approvals since 2016, until the first proposal of this nature was finally cleared in 2022.
The newly approved establishments encompass a diverse range of sectors, including hotel and restaurants, food, grocery, dairy and FMCG products, readymade garments, provision stores, logistics and warehouses ,sports goods, among others.
The LG approved 314 applications in October of the previous year, and in June of the current year, he approved 155 establishments seeking exemptions.
Pushing further towards his vision of bolstering business operations, the Lieutenant Governor directed the Labour Department to fast-track the development of a comprehensive 'Single Window System.' This integrated portal is designed to streamline the approval process for businesses aspiring to operate 24x7 within the city limits. The Lieutenant Governor has now cleared an additional 29 applications, further demonstrating his commitment to this agenda.
With the new wave of approvals, VK Saxena has paved the way for 498 establishments to operate without time constraints, facilitated by exemptions under Sections 14, 15 & 16 of the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954. These exemptions come with certain conditions aimed at ensuring the welfare of labor and security, among other considerations.
The Lieutenant Governor, while giving his nod to the latest proposal from the Labour Department, highlighted his directive to expedite the creation of a 'Single Window System.'
