Defer power due notice, NTPC told

Published on:

Days after the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) issued separate notices to the two Reliance-backed power discoms warning them of snapping the power supply in case of their failure to pay dues amounting to `1,300 crore by midnight on May 9, the State load Dispatch Centre (SlDC) on Friday directed the NTPC to keep the notice in abeyance in light of “imminent threat to the grid security”.

The SlDC has said the regulation of power supply to Delhi discoms will lead to imbalance in the grid. In a notice issued to BSES, the SlDC has said if the NTPC snaps the power supply, it will lead to imbalance in the grid because the load of Delhi will remain constant while supply would be limited.

“The grid collapses will result in disruption of power supply to strategic installation and institutions of national importance such as Government offices (Centre and state) like Supreme Court, High Court, Parliament including areas of NDMC and other distribution licences… In light of imminent threat to the grid security, we direct NTPC to suspend the regulation of power supply and keep the notice in abeyance till further communication,” says the notice issued to the NTPC.

It further said the NTPC has not informed where they will be selling their excess power. “If NTPC back down its plant, the same will adversely affect the grid frequency and will result in grid collapse. From the past experience of grid collapse, the SlDC cannot take risk of grid collapse which will endanger the grid security,” it adds.

The SlDC has said if the NTPC schedules power to particular region or consumer, it will result in overloading of inter-regional lines and inter-State lines.

The BRPl supplies power to 14 lakh customers, spread over densely-populated Central and East Delhi areas. The BRPl distributes power to over 21 lakh customers spread across South and West Delhi.

While the BRPl owes `892.30 crore for power allocation of 1,349 units from various NTPC power stations, BYPl owes `402.93 crore for power allocation of 678 MW.
