Deen Dayal hospital on cleaning spree after reality check

With the arrival of monsoon, the Government has issued an advisory to all the State-run hospitals to initiate measures to prevent and control outbreak of vector-borne diseases (VBDs) like dengue and malaria. However, the authorities of the State-run Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital seem to have little time to care for hygiene. When this reporter visited the hospital on Thursday, the hospital was found in a pathetic state with waterlogging in many areas on the premises.
Patients, who turned up for the treatment in the hospital, had to face a lot of problems due to the waterlogging. A rotten rat lying at the OPD entrance speaks volumes about the gravity of the situation. When The Pioneer raised unhygienic conditions in the hospital with Medical Superintendent Savita Babbar, hospital authorities immediately swung into action and ordered safai karmcharis to clear waterlogged areas and remove the dead rat.
The Medical Superintendent immediately deputed a nodal officer to check entire hospital and fix the waterlogging problem. “We have ordered the safai karmcharis to clean all the waterlogged areas,” she said, adding that the issue will be solved within 24 hours.“We have passed strict orders to the all the safai karmcharis to be more alert during the monsoon and regularly clean the toilets and hospital corridors,” Babbar added.
Meanwhile, many patients expressed anger over the inconvenience caused due to waterlogging. Jai Prakash (50) — who was visiting the hospital for Orthopaedic treatment said, “This is the worst and most unhygienic place for getting treatment. Bura haal hai is hospital ka (This hospital is in bad condition).”
