Investigations into the extortion racket run by Head Constable Amit Tomar has opened a can of worms. He was reportedly spearheading a gang for the last decade or so and involved in extorting money from people by threatening to implicate them on trumped up charges. Tomar is a close associate of a senior police officer, posted in South East district and was in-charge of a police team and he posed as a Sub-Inspector. He is still absconding. His aide Sub-Inspector Nagender Tomar has been arrested.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Yadav said that a complaint was registered by Sanjay Kumar Thakur, who runs a coaching centre in Jaitpur.
“On November 4, three persons, SI Nagender Tomar, HC Amit Tomar and Constable Kaushal, came to his coaching centre. He was told that printing of railway tickets was illegal and the hard disk to his computer was seized. They took him to Nehru Place police post in a private vehicle, called his father and demanded Rs5 lakh ransom. Thakur was released after Rs1.5 lakh was coughed up. The hard disk however, was never returned to its rightful owner,” he added.
“The absconding accused Tomar is famously infamous, known in his circles by the moniker Churli. In connivance with a senior police officer, he was running his extortion racket,” police sources informed. Tomar was deployed with South East district while his posting was with Crime Branch’s special team at Rohini.
