Two days after a 30-year-old man died due to excessive bleeding after he allegedly smashed a beer bottle on his head at a pub in South Delhi's Hauz Khas village on New Year's Eve, his family is suspecting foul play and demanding investigation into the matter by police.
According to a senior police officer of the South district, family of the victim, Deepak Tandon, has alleged that he was beaten up by the club bouncer and manager before the incident took place.
"The family submitted a complaint on Monday in which they have alleged that the victim was beaten up by the club people. All allegations will be verified once the post mortem report comes. We will investigate once the cause of the death is established," said the senior police officer.
The victim, Deepak Tandon, a resident of ludhiana in Punjab, had come to Delhi especially to celebrate the New Year with his three friends. They went to a pub at Hauz Khas village together on Saturday evening when the incident took place.
Tandon's family members were informed about his death. He worked as a bouncer at marriages in ludhiana occasionally, said police.
Sources said Tandon's sister has alleged that he had a fight with the club authorities, after which the incident occurred. She suspects that Tandon was allegedly murdered.
Tandon was alleged to be heavily drunk at the time of the incident. Sources said when other people around him started getting annoyed due to his behaviour, the club's manager and bouncer allegedly asked him to leave. Tandon became angry, picked up a beer bottle, broke it, and started waving it in front of the bouncer in a threatening manner. later, police said Tandon smashed the broken bottle on his head.
Although police have not found any CCTV footage related to the incident from the crime scene so far, they have got a mobile video recorded by someone from the crowd.
In the video, Tandon is seen bleeding from his head and some policemen are trying to make him sit inside a police patrol van, in which he was later taken to the Safdarjung hospital.
