According to police, Sharma, whose “charred body” was found inside his car on May 2 this year, had faked his own death. The incident took place when he was returning home after duty. After the arrest of Sharma from Bangalore, the Noida Police is puzzled now they will have to face tough questions that then whose body was found on May 2 in Sharma’s car if he is alive. Badly burnt body in the car was identified by his relatives as Sharma. “The body which was found in the car was charred beyond recognition but his relatives were called and they established his identity,” a police official said.
Following the incident, Sharma’s family members and the AAP had claimed that the activist had been murdered by some mafia as he was an active RTI activist and exposed them. They had also alleged that Sharma had been receiving threatening calls. The arrested came after receiving inputs that Sharma was spotted near the Nepal border with a woman.
After verifying the reports that he is alive, several teams were formed and pressed into service to trace Sharma. Police further said that the Sharma and his companion also made effort to contact their family members when they were nabbed by the police in Bangalore. A police official said first tip-off came from Sharma’s wife Savita Sharma who had found some suspicious messages from her husband’s mobile phone. “She also claimed that a woman would frequently call Sharma. The woman would live in the vicinity,” he said.
“The woman who lived in the vicinity had also gone missing after one month of the incident. First I ignore these talks thinking that these are rumours. I was surprised that my husband is alive. It is shameful,” Savita said.
