In a bid to generate revenue and to provide all the basic facilities such as restaurant, office complex, service apartments, shopping stores, eating outlets, medical stores, restaurants and other fun activities to a particular community, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is planning to construct 'Commercial Complex' on the vacant lands of the authorities' district and community centers. In a first District centre with international model, art and aesthetics will be constructed in Dwarka Sector-11 and 12.
Besides, the authority is working on the other vacant lands situated at Dwarka to start commercial activities such as District and Community centers. The project is a part of Master plan 2021.
"These projects are part of Master Plan 2021. The main aim behind these projects is to generate revenue along with serving the community where people can avail the facilities near their house such as retail shopping, socio-cultural activities, dispensary, movie, restaurant, offices of the local body and etc. Currently, the people living in Sector-11 and 12 go far to shop or visit a mall to watch movie and chill out with the family. But now, they can have everything at one place near their home," said a senior DDA official.
The District centers are meant to serve as the apex of the multi-nodal activities of the community which should be conceived as major shopping centers, while serving the community with a reasonable variety of other services and facilities as indicated retail shopping, commercial and offices of local bodies, cinema/ cineplex's, hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, socio-cultural activities / recreational club, police post, fire post. Telephone exchange, post and telegraph office, petrol pump/ CNG station, bus terminal, multi level parkings. Also centres of socio-cultural activity where the community can get together," said the official.
The official further said that the consultants and the officials working on the project layout and designs to develop District centre on the 22600 Square meter (sqm) at Dwarka Sector-11 and 12. "The project is in its initial stage and the finalization of the work will take one year. Further, once everything is final and get approval, the project will complete in two years," added the official.
The DDA is planning to revamp the already constructed District Centres which are in advanced stages of development are: Nehru Place Rajendra Place, Bhikaji Cama Place, Janakpuri , Laxmi Nagar , Shivaji Place (Raja Garden) , Jhandewalan, Netaji Subhash Place (Wazirpur), Saket and Manglam Place (Rohini).
