In order to rehabilitate thousands of slums in Katputli colonies, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will construct 2,800 flats. DDA officials said the work to rehabilitate slums was started way back in 2010 after a census was conducted and the DDA entering into an agreement with Raheja Builders to construct flats.
"Keeping in a view the artistic nature of Katpulti colony residents, Raheja has ensured us they will create two theaters in the 40 per cent of their area," said J P Agrawal, the Principal Commissioner, DDA.
"We need Katputli area vacant in order to start out leveling work there. Around 1,150 families have been shifted to Anand Parbat Transit camp," said Agrawal.
DDA officials said the construction work in Katpulti colonies will start in March this year. "The work will start once people vacate the place. The authority is concerned about the people living there. Police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order," said Agrawal.
Under slum rehabilitation programme, the DDA will construct 70 thousand flats in different places of the city. "The construction work will start in March month," DDA official added.
The official said, "60 per cent Floor Area Ration (FAR) of these flats will remain with the DDA while 40 per cent of the share will be of builder." DDA officials said around 2,641 families were living in the colony.
According to DDA's Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, a public-private partnership (PPP) launched as part of a larger plan called the Delhi Master Plan 2021, the slum dwellers are to be relocated to a transit camp for two years, during which period, Raheja Builders would construct 1 BHK houses with modern facilities and on completion, they will be located back to their original residence.
Aggarwal clarified that development work cannot begin until everyone is shifted. Police are there to maintain law and order, with clear instructions to ensure that the residents do not indulge in violence.
