DDA goes online with public suggestions

The DDA is devising an online mechanism to incorporate suggestions and complaints in the masterplan on its website. Delhi's premiere housing agency has received over 4,000 suggestions and is now uploading their status.

This is an attempt to make the system transparent and the agency more accountable. Information uploaded will include status of the suggestion received, discussion that took place on at various levels and final outcome. "Details, including the reason for rejection of the suggestion and the level it reached, will be mentioned," said DDA spokesperson Neemo Dhar.

DDA also seeks to ensure genuine participation of the people in the masterplan. "Every suggestion received should be documented and made part of the masterplan history," said a DDA official.

The suggestion is given a diary number when filed. Once an individual enters the diary number, "details of who attended the meeting, what the suggestions of the different members were and what the final decision was can be viewed," according to an official.

About 200 suggestions have been uploaded. In the past too, DDA has put some public services online. "The idea is to promote mass participation and create a transparent system," said Dhar.
