A day after DCW issued fresh summons to SHO Kashmere Gate on Monday, Delhi Commission for Women on Tuesday issued summon to BJP MlA OP Sharma over AAP MlA Alka lamba’s complaint against him over usage of inappropriate language. Sharma has been asked to appear before the commission on August 20.
“The commission has directed to issue summons for personal appearance to you (Sharma) in pursuance of powers under the provisions of the DCW Act, 1994,” the DCW notice said. Sharma has been asked to appear before the commission on August 20. DCW had issued fresh summons to SHO Kashmere Gate regarding the alleged attack on lamba during an anti-drug drive last week.
lamba, along with the SHO Vijender Singh and DCP North Madhur Verma, were summoned to appear before the DCW on Monday. While Verma did not come for the meeting the SHO was issued a fresh summon for August 20 and was asked to come along with the CCTV footage and status report on action taken in the case.
A case of trespassing, damage to property and preventing Government servant from discharging his duty was registered against lamba, the AAP MlA from Chandni Chowk, at Kashmere Gate police station on August 10 on a complaint by traders.
lamba was injured when someone allegedly threw a stone at her during an anti-drug drive. A video clip later showed her vandalising shops along with some of her supporters. She had lodged a complaint on the same day with the DCW against Sharma alleging he used foul language against her and threatened her. While Sharma was not available for his comments on the issue, lamba hailed the DCW summon saying, “I hope I will get justice”.
In another case, DCW has issued a notice to Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia after the college authorities revised the hostel guidelines for girl students setting the deadline to return to the hostels by 8 pm.
Taking a cognizance of the issue, Swati Maliwal asked the college authorities to submit a copy of previous and revised guidelines and explain the reason for imposing such restrictions on girl students within seven days.
The letter stated that no such guidelines have been issued by other universities and it applies to only girl students in Jamia and not the boys which raises allegations of discrimination.
