Day II: Online registration multiplies; ground hurdles cleared

Online registrations for admission to Delhi University rose with a staggering number of 30,000 on the second day of the admission season. The crowd at the university remained comparatively less, although students poured in with more queries and campus surroundings were better facilitated.

The Faculty of Arts campus, which saw huge throngs of students, had tents pitched on the grounds for aspirants' queing up at the counters, help-desks and also for the media.

"Online registrations have improved. Overnight, the number increased three times. Of the total registrations, 14,000 have already paid and only 27,606 number of offline forms were sold across the 18 centres for admissions in the university. We have tried to keep up the maintainance of the website to remove any errors faced by students," said Gulshan Sahwney, deputy dean of the students welfare.

likewise, complaints by student volunteers and aspirants on the first day on arrangements at the admission spot were redressed. The National Students Union of India distributed samples of the common pre-admission forms for free to candidates so that they could take a demo before filling the original forms for Rs 100. "It was much relaxed than the first day as we have been working in shade and the water has been quickly served from nearby water filters. There are standing fans also in some tents, so a person can go take a break. Unlike the first day, the students were able to avoid making mistakes on the OMR forms as the samples were provided to them," said Renushree Sakia, a member of the NSUI, at their help-desk.

"Even though the instructions have been given across the booklets, they inquired about the college selection and space available for writing the digits for mobile numbers and codes," she said.
