In yet another case of data theft at the ATM machines in Outer Delhi, a woman from Chennai was duped of Rs71,000 cash in Outer Delhi’s Begumpur area. This is the third such incident where people have been duped of thousands of rupees. Police has registered an FIR at Begumpur police station of Rohini district.
In the first incident, reported from Bawana area, close to 100 people were cheated of their hard earned money after they received messages that cash has been withdrawn from their bank account. The rampant rise in this kind of fraudulent transactions highlight the laxity on the part of the local police and the bank officials, said a police officer.
Police sources said on Monday that “The incident came to light on Monday morning when 30 year old Saraswati Devi, a resident of Chennai who is in the national capital received multiple text messages that her bank account has been debited of Rs45,000 cash and Rs25,060 cash on different occasions.”
As per the written complaint submitted by the woman, she came with her husband and children to live at her relative’s house in the Rajiv Nagar area of Begumpur 20 days ago.
On Sunday, Saraswati Devi had gone to the HDFC ATM kiosk to take out Rs5,000 cash. However, On Monday she was shocked to find out that three to four transactions had happened and Rs45,000 withdrawn from her Punjab National Bank account.
