Crackdown on burning of leaves, garbage

Published on:

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has constituted a 120-member team to monitor cases of burning of leaves and garbage in the city especially during night and fine violators.

The civic body would deploy a five member team headed by sanitation supervisor in each zone to intercept such cases, a senior SDMC official said. Besides, the teams will also put an end to stop incidents of  wood burning during winter.

The official said despite a blanket ban on the burning of garbage and leaves, it is  observed that such incidents are happening on large scale, further pulluting the air. Garbage burning is one of the major contributors to pollution in the national Capital.

The city produces nearly 10,000 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste and dumped it to already exhausted landfills.
