The High Court on Thursday asked the Delhi Government to file an additional affidavit indicating the number of fatal accidents caused by Blueline buses since 2009. It was hearing a case on possible use of the infamous buses in outer Delhi.
Following the court's earlier direction, the Government submitted a report on the policy for this, in which it suggested safety measures. A Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice BD Ahmed and Justice Vibhu Bakhru directed the Government to submit the data after amicus curie Kailash Vasudev opposed the Government's policy for plying of Blueline buses in outer Delhi.
According to the Government, Bluelines were required in outer Delhi because low-floor buses cannot ply on the rough roads there. "Blueline buses which will ply in outer Delhi will be smaller. They will be 24-seater minibuses," submitted Anjum Javed, counsel for the Delhi Government.
"These mini buses will help the people suffering due to phasing out of Bluelines," said the Government.
