A Delhi court on Thursday issued letter of Request for investigation and collection of documents to the competent authorities in Mauritius in order to assist the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in probe of Rs36,000-crore Augustawestland scam. The agency in its application had stated that Mauritius Government’s support is required to probe the scam.

Special CBI judge Ajay Kumar Jain allowed a plea filed by CBI in which it had sought the issuance of a lR (a letter of formal request from a court to a foreign court) for investigation and collection of documents in Mauritius in connection with the case.

The CBI court on September 24 had issued a non-bailable warrant against British citizen Christian Michel James, one of the accused after the agency said he was required for questioning to ascertain crucial aspects in the matter.

James, according to the British authorities, is in Dubai. Special Public Prosecutor JS Wadia submitted that during CBI’s probe, it was revealed that in 2002 AW101 helicopters of Augusta Westland International ltd did not participate in the evaluation trial of the proposed VVIP helicopter for the use VVIPs in India.
