The Delhi Police has arrested husband-wife duo along with four others for allegedly selling their 60 days old infant to a childless couple for Rs 3.60 lakhs and later misleading the investigators by cooking up a false story of kidnapping of their newly born.
Police said that the infant boy was safely rescued in Kanpur from the possession of 50-year-old Vidyanand Yadav and his 45-year-old wife Rampari Yadav.
“The couple based in Madhubani district of Bihar have been married for the last 25 years but do not have a child and so approached one of their relatives based in Delhi - Raman Kumar Yadav to arrange a baby in lieu of money,” said police.
“Raman Kumar Yadav then approached his friend Harpal Singh for the same who further approached poor couple Govind Kumar (30) and his wife Pooja Devi (22), who were expecting a child. A deal was fixed and an agreement cum letter regarding sale/purchase of infant was also signed by the concerned parties on June 12 for the same,” said Atul Kumar Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South district.
“Govind Kumar, who is a labourer and his wife already have a five-year-old boy who is at their native village in Bihar with his grandparents.
Accused Vidyanand Yadav sold his land (measuring 450 yards) for Rs 3 lakhs to purchase a newly born baby boy from accused Kumar and his wife. Vidyanand Yadav had informed them in advance before the birth of the child that he would only take a male child,” said the DCP.
“After the deal was executed, Govind Kumar went to banks for the encashment of cheques, but he was informed by the bank officials that these are PDC cheques, which may be encashed on the given dates mentioned on cheques. Then, he came back to his house and tried to contact Raman and Haripal, but they blocked his number. Hence, with the apprehension of bouncing of cheques and due to the exerted pressure of his wife, he made the PCR call about his son's kidnapping,” said the DCP.
“Govind Kumar was examined and on his instance, Haripal Singh was nabbed from Aya Nagar area. When Singh was questioned, he disclosed that Kumar and his wife themselves gave their newly born infant to one of the relatives of his friend, Raman Yadav,” said the DCP.
“Later, the police team led by SHO Fatehpur Beri Kuldeep Singh managed to nab Raman Kumar from Sanjay Camp area in Moti Bagh, which is a densely populated slum cluster. When questioned, he disclosed that his relatives had already left Delhi through Swatantra Senani Express from New Delhi Railway Station at 9:15 PM,” said the DCP.
“The police then checked the running status of Swatantra Senani Express and found that the said train was about to reach Kanpur Central at around 2:30 AM on Wednesday. So, SHO Fatehpur Beri Kuldeep Singh contacted the officials of Harbans Mohal police station near Kanpur Central and shared the case details,” said the DCP.
“Subsequently, Vidyanand Yadav and Rampari Devi were stopped by the concerned police station in Kanpur and a team of Delhi Police later reached there and recovered the kidnapped infant and took the couple in police custody,” said the DCP.
“The agreement dated June executed for the deal has been recovered along with four cheques of Rs. 40,000 each, cash Rs. 15,000, two receipts of cash transactions of Rs. 80,000 and three mobile phones of accused persons, Govind Kumar, Raman Kumar Yadav and Haripal Singh, containing the call recordings of the illegal deal of selling of infant from the possession of accused persons,” said the DCP.
The rescued child will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee which will further decide on the custody of the child, said police.
