Couple found hanging from tree in Hapur; honour killing suspected

In yet another case of “honour killing”, a young couple was found hanging from a tree in Kakrana village of Dhaulana under neighboring district Hapur. This sensational incident was reported on Wednesday morning. Preliminary investigation has led the police to believe that they were murdered and then their bodies were hung from a tree to mislead the investigators.

It has been revealed that the girl was from a socially backward caste while the boy, in love with her, belonged to a forward caste. It appears that the family of the boy did not approve the relationship and a plot was hatched to bump them off, said a police officer.

The police said that on April 28, the girl was abducted by influential musclemen from her residence. Being from the Scheduled Caste (SC) and economically deprived lot, the family could not muster courage to report the matter to the police against the influential people of their village. They got support from villagers  to report the matter to the police that his daughter was kidnapped. Radheshyam Prajapati, the father was the girl lodged the complaint with Dhaulana police on May 1, 2017.

Four people identified as Pankaj, Bhole, Raju and Kuldeep have been named in the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Dhaulana police station and investigation has been taken up, said a police officer involved in the investigation.

Bodies of the girl Komal (19) and Pankaj (21) were found hanging from a tree in the outskirt of the Kakrana village. Incidentally, Pankaj too has been named in the FIR.

The Hapur police has sought  help from Ghaziabad police for the forensic examination of the spot. Accordingly, forensic expert Devraj Singh of Ghaziabad Police inspected the spot and collected  evidence from there.

Atul Yadav, the Circle Officer (CO) Pilkhuwa told that all those named in FIR are the village musclemen and are at large. “The  bodies have been sent for postmortem and raids are being conducted to nab the culprits. Action will be initiated against the guilty once the probe is over”, the CO added.
