The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a couple for allegedly duping innocent people of lakhs of rupees by creating fake profiles at matrimonial website.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar said, “We arrested Oboh Tony Erhauyi (31), a Nigerian national and his wife Rosy Noronha (40) from their residence at Mayur Vihar Phase-III on April 14. Rosy is the daughter of an IAF officer and had studied from Jesus and Mary College.”
The Joint CP said, “In 2016, Oboh got married to Rosy. He started his own shoe business but the couple could not meet their expenses so they came up with the plan to cheat people.”
Kumar said, “As per the complaint filed by one SC Juneja last year in October, he had created a profile of his daughter on Jeevansaathi. At the matrimonial website, the complainant came across a profile of Vinod Abhishek. Within a few months, the girl and Vinod (fake name used by Oboh) started exchanging mails and also started talking over phone. Once Vinod won the girl's trust, he concocted a story that his parcel is coming to Delhi at the girl's house but they would have to pay money for air freight clearance.”
The officer further said, “The complainant was asked to give Rs 1,92,083, Rs 4,96,700, Rs 7,50,000 and Rs 1,00,000 for air freight service, Income Clearance, United Nation Clearance and Immigration Fee to be paid to the US Government for transit passport respectively. Once the accused took all the money, he started talking in abusive language. The girl's father then approached the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch.”
A team under DCP Bhisham Singh and Inspector Sandeep Malhotra was formed to probe the case. After four months of technical surveillance, Oboh Tony Erhauyi and wife Rosy Noronha were arrested from their residence.
During investigation, they revealed that the payment for fake profile on Jeevansathi.com was made through a Paytm and they have nine such fake profiles on this matrimonial site.
