A day after ‘Operation Milap’ was launched by the Noida Police to find owners of unclaimed vehicles dumped in various police stations, more than 80 applications were received to claim the vehicles.
To expedite the campaign, the city police has issued two helpline numbers — 8527114515 and 9411260617. People, whose vehicles have been stolen or looted in the district, can contact the help desk to confirm their vehicles details, said officials. Helpline numbers will be in operation between 11 am and 4 pm.
Senior superintendent of police GB Nagar district Kiran S told The Pioneer, “We are receiving good response from the national Capital region. People are making enquiry on the numbers given by the Noida Police to match their missing vehicles. A total of 87 people have contacted the Noida Police on the first day. The move will help in freeing the space occupied by such vehicles dumped in various police stations.”
Police have started the operation in three phases to reach out to the respective vehicle owners. Superintendent of police (Crime), Noida Vishwajit Shriwastava — also the nodal officer of ‘Operation Milap’ — told The Pioneer, “We have prepared the list of these unclaimed vehicles that have been distributed to all Station House Officers. In the first phase, SHOs have been directed to collect the data of all impounded vehicles registered in their police stations within 15 days. If the real owners are not found in district’s police record, police will take the details from the transport authority of respective district.”
“We will do our best to find the vehicle owners,” said Shriwastava, adding, “In case owners don’t come forward to claim their vehicles, police will auction them,” said SP Crime.
Around 100 unclaimed cars and 400 bikes have been listed.
