Five drug peddlers, including two foreign nationals, were arrested on Monday and narcotics worth Rs6.25 crore were recovered from them. With the arrest, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has claimed to have busted four smuggling rings as 50 gram cocaine and 2.450 kilogram heroin were seized.

Interestingly, one of the drug traffickers had set up an illegal makeshift laboratory in the national Capital to manufacture heroin from opium.

“A trap was laid and Chijoke Ejikeme (31), a Nigerian national, was apprehended. Fifty gram cocaine was recovered from his possession,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Chand. On sustained interrogation, Ejikeme revealed that he had come to India in 2009 on a business visa.

In another incident, Jane Alam, alias Doctor (50), a resident of Shahjahanpur, UP, was apprehended with 500 gram of heroin. Alam told investigators that earlier he had the licence to cultivate opium plant, but on expiry of the licence he continued cultivating opium. He learnt the art of manufacturing heroin from opium, and then set up a makeshift laboratory at his residence to manufacture heroin from opium. This crude heroin was supplied in Delhi.

Police also arrested Vicky (20) from Samaipur Badli, and Afghan national Rahmattullah (25) from South Delhi’s Saket area. One kilo heroin was recovered from Rahmatullah’s possession.

Rahmatullah told the police that he comes from Kandahar, Afghanistan. In 2009, his brother Niyamutullah was arrested in Delhi for drug peddling. Since 2010, Rahmattullah has been visiting India for legal work of his brother, police said.
