Cops book banned app-based cabs, challan them on arrival

In order to effectively enforce the ban on app-based taxi services in Delhi, the Traffic Police has come up with an innovative strategy where all its officials will book cabs through these apps and challan them upon arrival. Besides, the vehicles will also be impounded.

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander said 158 app-based taxis have been challaned in the last 24 hours and 120 of them have been impounded. He said the action on app-based cab services is being taken by booking cabs through different apps and then challaning them once they arrive for the pickup.

Besides, a letter will also be written to Transport Department to cancel the permit of the vehicle. “liability of the company (Uber, Ola or Taxi for Sure) will also be fixed under Sections 93(1), 193 and 199 MV Act. Kalandara will be made and sent to court against the Company apart from challaning the driver,” said Chander.

“We are also requesting Transport Department to initiate action under section 188 of IPC against company executives for not obeying the Government directions,” added Chander.

The Transport Department of Delhi had banned the app-based taxi services Uber, Ola and Taxi For Sure from operating their services in Delhi since January 1, 2015. The government had also issued directions for blocking the website and mobile app of these services. But these taxi services still continue to operate in Delhi clandestinely.
