A constable of the Delhi Armed Police was suspended for getting ‘over-enthusiastic’ as he climbed over the barricade and shouted slogans supporting Arvind Kejriwal during the latter’s swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday.
“Rajesh Kumar, posted with the fourth battalion of the Delhi Armed Police was suspended as he had climbed the barricade, while on duty. He was responsible for managing a crowd of over 50,000 people and due to his action an untoward incident could have occurred,” said Sandeep Goel, Joint Commissioner of Police (Central Range). Other police officials had to intervene to control him and take him out of the venue.
The incident occurred when Kejriwal was delivering his speech. Kumar, apparently got carried away by his words and shouted slogans praising the Aam Aadmi Party as he tried to cross the barricades.
People at the ground were shocked to see such an act by a police personnel. Eye-witnesses said that he was also flinging his beret cap in the air when Kejriwal started singing the party anthem.
