The unsavoury bullying video footage reported from Modern School, Vasant Vihar, featuring a Class VI student being bullied by fellow schoolmates has left a bad taste. leading psychologists and parents are now saying that it was a high time parent and school authorities connected the dots.
A senior psychologist based in Delhi, Geetanjali Kumar, said that instead of blaming anyone, now all the school authorities should start some new initiative programme for their students and for parents as well. However, the teachers advocated for blanket ban on usage of mobile phone by students on school campus. “Mobile phones should be strictly banned. But then, parents of those students who go for private tuitions give them mobile phones as they are worried about their children,” said Ameeta Mulla Wattal, Principal, Springdales School. Wattal said parents should be alert about their child’s peers and keep track of the language being used by him/her.
Expressing ‘shock’, Renu Jain, a mother of two children, said school authorities and parents should ensure that the students are not using abusive language inside their premises, which they pick up from the street.
