Cong's free condom drive in Kirari to spread small family awareness

Published on:

For the past ten days, Congress workers are conducting unique programme in all the 106 resettlement colonies of Kirari by distributing condoms, soaps and leaflets detailing about the advantages of a small and healthy family.

local Congress leader Pratyush Kanth said the main aim of the programme is to spread across message that a small family is always a happy family. He said, “People need to recognise that if they have small families, they can  easily provide a healthy and quality living to their children. All children need nutritious food and quality education which can be achieved by keeping our families small.”

While distributing condoms, especially to the young men in the area, the party workers also conduct street corner meetings to explain in detail about the advantages of a small family.  Besides, Congress workers are also advocating that the girl child is as precious as boys.

Kanth said his party workers are also making fervent appeals to the residents to send their children to schools.  “Illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, poor healthcare facilities and lack of confidence are the main reasons why people have several children here.  Because of large families, poor people fall prey to money lenders and land grabbers.”

Kirari is the largest urbanised slum in the national Capital and people live in inhuman conditions in the area, said Congress workers, adding that one can easily spot six to seven people living under one roof in tiny enclosures.

More than 95 per cent people living here are migrants and most of them are employed as daily wagers, said Congress men.

Kanth said the AAP Government has not implemented even a single developmental project in this constituency. “Everyday many people come from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh looking for jobs in Delhi and many of them land up in Kirari. With no sewage system and stagnant contaminated water all around, it is one of the main reasons why people fall sick here frequently,” he said.

While campaigning, the Congress workers also distribute soaps to women as a lot of adults and children do not wash their hands after using toilet, said Kanth.
