Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar staged a protest against the opening of a new liquor vend near a school at Vinod Nagar situated in the Assembly constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.Kumar said that Delhi Congress will not allow opening of liquor vends near religious places and educational institutions in violation of rules and regulations, as the Arvind Government was trying to make Delhi “Nashe Ki Rajdhani”.
The Congress president said that the Chief Minister during his political tourism in Punjab, had made loud announcements there that he will make the State “Nasha Mukt”, but he has not only done the opposite in Delhi, but also lowered the drinking age from 25 to 21 years, to attract more and more impressionable youth to intoxication of liquor.
“The Arvind Government’s liberalized excise policy and the move to open nearly 1000 liquor vends in the Capital at the rate of three vends per ward will not only ruin the unemployed youth of the city but also worsen the already disturbed law and order and crime situation in Delhi,” he said.
Kumar further said that the Residents’ Welfare Associations, social and religious organizations were not consulted before opening liquor vends in residential areas, near schools and places of worship.
