The Delhi Congress on Wednesday slammed Delhi Government for hiking the water tariff by 20 per cent, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said that the government is making false propaganda to mislead the people, and sought an apology from the Government.

Maken also said that for the second time in three years, the Delhi Jal Board has increased the water tariff but the AAP Government was still claiming that free water was being distributed to the people of Delhi, though  such category of people only account for just eight per cent of the total houses in the  Capital. He said if the Kejriwal Government does not apologise to the people of Delhi for telling them lies on water subsidy.

Maken said  he has also written a letter to the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri regarding the ongoing sealing and demolition drive in the Capital, requesting him to consider reducing the conversion charges from residential to commercial to 10 per cent from 100 per cent as businesses have suffered. He said the people of Delhi have been caught in the grip of a sealing and demolition drive.

Maken said in the outcome budget of the Delhi Government for 2016-17, the Delhi Government had admitted that only 4 lakh 28,000 households were getting water at subsidised rates from the Delhi Jal Board for consumption of up to 20,000 litres of water.
