There was a major traffic issue in Delhi as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi met farmers at various points on his way back from Uttar Pradesh
Traffic police officials said there were major traffic snarls around areas in Cannaught place, Ring road, Anand Vihar ISBT, Mangolpuri, Burari bypass, Mahipalpur and Badarpur among other areas.
“We had to deploy extra traffic police officials to control the traffic chaos,” said a senior traffic official.
Motorists also had a harrowing time as they got stuck in long traffic jams in East and Central Delhi
Commuters in east and central Delhi had to face jams on the Bhairon Singh Marg, Vikas Marg and CP as Gandhi traversed through Delhi along with his supporters.
“Traffic was bound to be affected since it’s the festival time and there is more vehicular movement on the roads coupled with the additional traffic coming from outside for the rally. The traffic police was only intimated last evening by Congress members and Rahul’s security personnel to make arrangements,” said a senior traffic police officer.
The Twitter handle of Delhi Traffic Police was posting updates about the roads that would remain closed due to the rally and areas that would see heavy traffic.
