The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) and the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee jointly held a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday against the suspension of 25 Congress MPs of lok Sabha by the BJP-led Government. Seeking the resignation of the corrupt BJP Ministers, the demonstration was organised under the leadership of DPCC president Ajay Maken and HPCC president Ashok Tanwar.
Thousands of Congress workers, braving extremely humid and hot weather, expressed their ire by shouting slogans against the BJP-led Government at the Centre. They said the suspension of the Congress MPs was a high-handed and authoritarian action by the BJP-led Central Government.
The agitated Congress workers, who tried to march towards the Parliament House, were stopped by the police by putting up barricades. The demonstrators carried placards and shouted slogans.
Addressing the demonstrators, Ajay Maken said the suspension of 25 lok Sabha MPs of the Congress party was a dark chapter by the autocratic behaviour of the Modi Government. He said the suspension of the Congress MPs was undemocratic and against the wishes of the people. “The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee will fan out to every nook and corner of Delhi to protest against the autocratic action by the BJP Government at the Centre and seeking the resignation of the corrupt BJP Ministers, which was an insult and assault on a great institution like Parliament,” he said.
He added that it was very surprising why the Modi Government was trying to protect Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chauhan against whom serious cases of corruption and unethical behaviour have been established.
