Instead of bending rules, says NaMo at yoga mahotsav

Taking a side swipe at Congress-led Central Government,  BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday said that the present Government has forgotten core issues, including yoga which has put the nation in a deep crisis. Modi, addressing a yoga mahotsav at Ramlila Ground for promoting yoga in India, said that if the Government would have promoted yoga, the condition of the country would have improved in last 65 years. The mahotsav was organised by yoga guru Baba Ramdev on occasion of Martyrs’ Day where around 1 lakh people practised yoga.

Attacking on the ruling Government, Modi said that the country is deteriorating day-by-day while the Government has no adequate policy to improve the condition and even they have no time to remember more than eight lakh martyrs who had sacrificed their lives during freedom struggle. “The country is losing its identity while the Government is busy in wrong practices. They are ruling over the country by hook or crook ignoring national issues. There is a need to spread a message among mass for bringing change through the democracy,” said Modi.

Heaping praise on yoga guru Ramdev, Modi said that the concern of Baba Ramdev about black money, corruption and misgovernance in the country is appreciable. “If there was no ‘fire of truth’ within Ramdev, then he would have run away long back. He has a fire within himself as to why bad things are happening in the country, why there is black money, why this corruption, why this bad governanceIJ” said the Gujarat Chief Minister, adding, “There is a pain behind all this as well. His (Ramdev) issues are such which are liked by people like me. But there are many people whose sleep vanishes when he rakes up certain issues. So they get behind him,” he said.

Modi said that in the coming time, India will benefit from the attraction yoga has created to serve humanity at large. He maintained that Ramdev has revolutionised yoga and made it a people’s movement. “If the Indian Government had farsightedness... Its policies were such...Then through yoga we could have won the world over. Yoga is such a subject which can attract anyone. It could have been a great medium to reach out to the world,” Modi said, adding in the coming times he would promote yoga. He also asked countrymen to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence and urged them to take a pledge to take the nation to greater heights.

During the mahotsav, Ramdev without mentioning his name asked his supporters to help bring a “good leader” with “good intentions” to power. “Does the country require a good leaderIJ Hope you understand (what I mean). People with good intentions should be given the reins of the country. Do you agree with meIJ We have to get rid of the corrupt,” Ramdev said.
