Cong seeks major revamp in mohalla clinics

Criticising the anomalies in 105 AAP mohalla clinics run by AAP Government, the Delhi Congress president  Ajay Maken on Thursday alleged that mohalla clinics need major revamp as there are lapses in basic health services.

The Congress leader alleged that the AAP Government has extended pecuniary advantage to members and office bearers of AAP party by paying more than the prevailing market rent at the expense of public exchequer. Maken also released a report on mohalla clinics, which is based on surveys of all 105 mohalla clinics conducted by 217 Jan Sarvekshak appointed by the party.

The report highlights serious violations of public health and financial propriety by the Delhi Government. Maken had earlier written to CVC to probe the mohalla clinics project. On Thursday, the Congress leader has sent the report to lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung.

According to Maken, Congress Consulted with Public Health Experts and through its “Jan Sarvekshak”  volunteer team has done survey of each of the 105 mohalla clinics in Delhi between 18 and 20 August. He said Pradesh office has organised a training programme for 217 Jan Sarvekshak.

“Mohalla clinics were opened without carrying out detailed gap analysis and study” said Maken, adding that these clinics are opened only four hours in a day and in some clinics and the doctor earns Rs. 70,000-80,000  per month.

He said it is very surprising that on average a doctor attends a patient for two minute only. Maken said in the most of these clinics, in the absence of doctors other staffers attend patients for which they are not trained. There are no name plates mentioning doctors and their degrees.
