Delhi Congress held a cycle march to protest against the constant hike in the prices of petrol and diesel. The march was carried out from Rajpath Man Singh Road to India Gate circle.
Addressing the demonstrators, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said ever since BJP's Government came to power at the Centre, the prices of petrol and diesel have reached sky-high across the country. "The decision has sevearly affected not only the common man but the middle class as well," he said.
He said the poor and the middle class people have to struggle to earn two square meals now. Maken said that during the Congress regime, on 23rd May, 2013 a litre of petrol cost Rs 63.09 while the diesel price was at Rs 49.69 per litre in Delhi.
He said on 21 May, 2018, a litre of petrol in Delhi was costing Rs 76.57 while that of diesel per litre was Rs 67.82. "The central government does not have any logical answer for the steep hike in the prices of petrol and diesel. It thus becomes very clear that the policies of the Government are against the common people," he said.
Maken also said that the party will hold a series of protest at block levels against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government for failing to provide drinking water without any glitch in the national capital.
Maken also alleged that the owners of ice and water factories are making huge profits by robbing supplied water while residents are struggling to get drinking water. "The situation has become worse now as tanker mafias have become active and selling water at inflated rates," he said.
The party also participated in 'matka phod' demonstration at Rajendra Nagar Gole Chakkar to protest against the severe shortage of water in Rajendra Nagar Assembly constituency.
