Cong on a 'power' trip?

Delhi BJP on Tuesday charged the Congress of blatant violation of the model code of conduct by using BSES electricity bills for their propaganda. President of State unit of the party has also written a letter to the Election Commission (EC) seeking immediate remedial action for misuse of the Government machinery.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the BJP leader said that a large number of people had brought to their notice that they are receiving BSES bills for September and October with a propaganda sheet of Congress attached to them. “This sheet carries photographs of the Delhi Chief Minister and the Power Minister as well as propaganda about the various inaugurations etc., to lure voters. The Delhi Government has 49 per cent stake in discoms, so it is clear that this has been done intentionally and in a well-planned manner,” Goel said.

Former Union Minister also alleged that it is clear that Congress fears losing power in Delhi. Hence, it is misusing official machinery. “This should be stopped immediately and necessary action should be taken against the Chief Minister and the Power Minister as well as those concerned who have played a role in misuse of official machinery,” he averted.

Goel also criticised the Congress Government in the Capital for turning this year’s Diwali into a ‘Black Diwali’ as it has failed to control skyrocketing prices. Goel added that rising prices are causing grave hardship to common people in Delhi. “With prices of onions still hovering around Rs 85-Rs 90 per kilo, and prices of other essential commodities and vegetables showing a steep hike of 200-300 per cent recently, every family in the city is affected,” the Delhi BJP president said.

Terming the Government’s decision to sell onions at cheaper rates across the city as a “cosmetic measure”, Goel further stated the announcement is inadequate and not benefiting anyone. “Just 350 Safal outlets and 150 mobile onion vans are insufficient to cater to the needs of 1.67 crore people of Delhi. Similar half-hearted steps were taken earlier as well by the Congress Government. The mobile onion vans remained invisible and have brought no relief to people, and poor quality onions were sold at Safal outlets,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, leader of Opposition in lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday launched revised edition of A Tale of Two Drops authored by Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Chief Ministerial Candidate of BJP in Delhi. The original edition and its subsequent reprints detailed how the original Pulse Polio campaign in Delhi was conceived by Dr Harsh Vardhan, the then Health Minister of the new State, and carried to its logical conclusion on October 2, 1994. The new edition comes with the present position in India’s fight against polio.
