Intensifying its campaign, Delhi Congress on Saturday launched ‘Haath Ke Saath Cycle Yatra’ with an aim to directly inteact with the people and tell about Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s promise of Rs 72,000 per annum payments to poor people.
Inaugurating the yatra, Chairman of All India Congress Committee (AICC) communications department Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the 13-day yatra covering 27 assembly constituencies being undertaken to send out a very loud message across the country.
Surjewala said that the cycle yatra would also expose the failures and falsehood of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) led Central Government.
“The dynamic Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme (NYAY) announced by Congress president Rahul Gandhi will benefit 20 per cent poorest people in the country, which works out to five crore families and about 25 crore people in all, as the Congress Government will deposit Rs 72,000 annually in the name of the woman of the family,” he said.
Flagging off the cycle yathra, Surjewala coined a new slogan “Le Haath Me Haath, Chalte Jaaye Vikas Ki Dagar Me Saath-Saath”. Hitting ou at the BJP, he said that the Prime Minister gave false hopes and made hollow promises to the people during the 2014 Parliamentary elections to get their votes, but none of the promises made by him have been fulfilled in the last five years.
“Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh to the accounts of every bank account holder two crore employment would be made available every year to the youth of the country, shopkeepers would be freed from the ‘inspector raj’ and the young people would be provided free education but did not fulfil these promises,” he said.
Delhi Congress working president Devender Yadav said that the workers and leaders of the party would publicise the programmes and policies of the Congress party. “The cyclists would cover all the 27 Assembly constituencies in a disciplined manner to popularize the policies and programmes of the Congress party, to reach out to every voter, and ensure the victory of the Congress candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he said.
