Delhi Congress has written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking his intervention in the early return of Delhi's labourers to their native places.
In the letter to Chief Minister and Delhi Chief Secretary, the Congress Delhi unit president Chaudhary Anil Kumar has sought details of scheduled plan for sending migrant labourers back to their native places due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Incidentally, the party has decided to pay train or buses fare for migrants who want to return back to their home. The Congress party has received 2,106 forms filled by migrant labour who want to go back to their home States.
Kumar said as per the direction of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the Congress party will bear the train or bus fares of these migrant labourers if the Delhi Government and the Railways are not footing their travel and meals expenses.
“The Delhi Congress has received around 2,106 forms from the migrant labourers who want to go back, which was also enclosed along with his letter. The condition of the migrant labourers is so pathetic that even those people who have been living in Delhi for the past many years are also rushing to go back by the first available ‘Shramic’ Special train or by bus,” he said.
Kumar has requested Kejriwal to give details of the steps being taken by the Delhi Government for the travel arrangements of the migrant labourers and the name of the nodal officer so that Delhi Congress can give appropriate directions to the migrant labourers, who are in touch with the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, for their travel to their native places.
Accusing the Government of not drawing up any road map for the transportation of migrant labourers to help them reaching their homes, he said the Congress party came forward to help them to help them back home.
He wondered whether the move to open liquor outlets was taken under pressure from the liquor cartel. “The Kejriwal Government has not announced any relief for the people through measures like waiving off of water and power charges and school fees,” he added.
Kumar said that due to the mismanagement by the Government, the common people, small shop keepers, daily wage earners, low-salaried people are in deep distress and desperation.
