Cong attacks AAP Govt on 'referendum'

The Congress on Monday continued its attack on the Delhi Government by questioning the referendum theory proposed by Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal. Party spokesperson Sharmishta Mukherjee on Monday outlined the important issues which the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) has been deflecting by way of focusing on petty topics.

latching onto the controversial referendum held in the United Kingdom, the Chief Minister on Friday tweeted for a referendum on full statehood for Delhi. The Congress claimed that such a demand is being mitigated in order to divert attention from the controversies which the Delhi Government is embroiled in. “Despite having an 80 member PR team, the AAP has hired a private PR agency whose budget is a hefty Rs200crore,” said  Mukesh Sharma, spokesperson of DPCC.

“When this information reached the public, Kejriwalji quickly sidetracked the issue by tweeting in favour of a referendum,” he added.

The Congress stressed upon the Keshavananda Bharti case judgement of 1973 in which difficult procedures such as referendums were completely eliminated and powers to amend the constitution were limited to legislatures.

“Even after the judgment passéd by the SC, how can Delhi CM make such irresponsible statements and mislead the citizens of the country. We wonder if they have any provision by which they can surpass the verdict,” said Sharmishta Mukherjee.
