Delhi Police arrested a 32-year-old computer graduate from Malaysian University for allegedly killing his mother after she refused him money for  drugs, police said on Wednesday. The accused, Animesh Jha, was planning to flee to Nepal but was arrested from Patna railway station on Tuesday, police said. Animesh hopped from one city to another to evade arrest.

He travelled between various places like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Mumbai, Patna, said DCP (Southwest)Surender Kumar, adding that he visited 13 cities of seven states in 17 days after allegedly killing his mother, Meeta Jha, on February 24.

“The police traced his location to Mumbai but before they could reach Mumbai, he changed his location from Chembur (Mumbai) to Andheri (Mumbai) and from there, he fled to Patna,” said the officer.

He was trying to contact one of his friends through linkedin and wanted to escape to Patna and from there by road to Nepal as he had drug peddlers as his contacts there, police said.

He was aware that police could trace him through his phone location. He was therefore not using his mobile phone, instead was using the STD booths to make phone calls.
