Come out with white paper on CSE report over DTC: Gupta to Govt

The Aam Aadmi Party Government should come out with white paper on the report of the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) regarding gross mismanagement of 'Delhi Transport Corporation' leading to 35 per cent drop in ridership in a span of four years," demanded leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Wednesday.

He said that the report questions the inability of DTC to purchase even a single new bus and a number of other serious management issues. "The silence of the Government is incomprehensible but the party will have to explain the public how and why the condition of DTC has come to such a state during its tenure," he said.

Gupta also questioned that how the daily average ridership of DTC went down from 47 lakh in 2012-13 to 30 lakh by the end of 2016. "The short fall of such a huge number is a matter of deep concern. The government made hue and cry over Delhi metro ridership falling by 3 lakh in October but it failed to see steep declined in its own ridership.

He further said that the AAP had promised in its manifesto to add 5,000 new buses to DTC fleet but according to CSE, it has presently only 5425 buses against a requirement of 15,000 buses as per master plan of Delhi 2021.

Gupta said that it is a matter of deep concern that 700 DTC buses stay off roads every day for maintenance and break down. It shows how serious is Delhi Government about DTC managementIJ
