Having finalised the seat redistribution across the colleges, Delhi University is now in the process of approving the new courses for this academic session. Around 80 per cent of the colleges have applied for the introduction of new honours courses under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) as per the availability of seats in particular disciplines.

After the scrapping of pass courses colleges were told to distribute the seats into the honours courses according to the workload, maintaining a stream-wise distribution. While seats in many courses have doubled after the redistribution, principals of various colleges have prepared a list to get the approval to offer few more honours courses as per the availability of seats from the earlier pass courses.

“A majority of colleges will have two or more new honours courses from this academic session. The seats remaining after their distribution from pass courses to honours have been sorted into the new courses. Colleges were asked to prepare the list and accordingly brief on the requirement, reason and infrastructure for the new courses. The University has approved most of them and they would be announced officially in the coming few days,” said Umesh Rai the Director of the South Campus.

Pratibha Jolly, the Principal of Miranda House, said that they have requested for two new courses and are awaiting a nod from the university. She said at least one is expected of having been approved. Earlier, Pradumn Kumar of the Hindu College too had shared that the college wanted to introduce a course in Psychology and Computer Science but only by next year. “The new reform has let a scope for introducing new courses. Though my primary concern for this year is stabilising the Four-Year programme, I will definitely try to pitch in at least two new courses next year,” he added. However, a University official has said that few of the college on campus with a limited number of seats will not be introducing new courses while colleges like the Ambedkar College with 250 seats for BSc pass courses and 300 seats for BA course will have no option but to introduce new course.

The Principal of the Ramjas College, Rajinder Kumar confirmed that the college has put up a request to introduce an honours course in Philosophy and Psychology this year.
