Students may need to exercise some caution this time while finalising their admissions to Delhi University. While the university has given students the liberty to cancel admissions taken on the basis of earlier cutoff lists, it has been made clear to students that those who once cancel their admission in a college will not be entertained in the same college again. Officials from the university on Friday advised students and parents attending the open house session in South Campus that students should not cancel admissions in haste.
Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare, Dr Gulshan Sawhney said, “They should first make sure that they are eligible to take admission in the other college. Only then should they cancel their previous admission. That is why three days have been given to the candidates. There is no first-come, first-served policy any more, so students need not be in a hurry as all students matching the cutoff will be admitted.” This process will be applicable for admissions under all the lists issued by the colleges.
Additionally, students will have to be careful that they cancel their previous admission before they formally admit themselves somewhere else, informed Dinesh Varshney, Deputy DSW (South Campus). “Earlier admissions to colleges would take place on a first-come, first-served basis, which meant that students had to rush to give the fees of the college. However, this time the guidelines issued by the university clearly state that if a student is found to have taken admission in more than one college, the candidate will be removed from the admission process altogether. Thus, the student should make sure they follow the process carefully,” he said.
During the open house session, officials also clarified that the college where the student first takes admission must, under all circumstances, return the original documents to the student. Dr Sahni said, “In case the documents are not returned by a college, the student can meet the grievance committee to file a complaint.”
