Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday requested all MPs from Delhi, including North-East Delhi MP and DPCC president Jai Prakash Aggarwal, to help in early commissioning of the Western Peripheral Expressway that is essential for decongesting Delhi roads.

She said that apart from easing the traffic coming from other States, this will also control the pollution level in the city. Dikshit further lauded the PWD for executing several projects of great significance in the Capital.

“The Capital has been witnessing the biggest ever infrastructural development by Public Works Department and other agencies. Delhi has the best road infrastructure and PWD has currently been undertaking new projects worth `3000 crore keeping in view the growing requirements in the city,” Dikshit said after laying foundation stone of improvement of a corridor and construction of signal-free corridor from Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad Chowk at Outer Ring Road.

The project is being executed with an estimated cost of `633 crore. The 8-km corridor would have flyovers at Bhalaswa Chowk, at Mukundpur Chowk, Burari Chowk and Jagatpur Chowk apart from widening and re-development of surface road. The commissioning of the comprehensive scheme to make Vikaspuri-Wazirabad sections of the Outer Ring Road signal-free with a number of flyovers and elevated road will cost `2200 cr. The corridor from Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad is part of the comprehensive redevelopment scheme.

“The commissioning of the scheme would prove to be a boon for Delhi and other neighbouring States as the vehicles and commuters coming from the nearby colonies and villages apart from other States have been facing longer traffic jams,” the Chief Minister said.
