In a serious bid to improve overall security in the national Capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to hold detailed deliberations with lieutenant-Governor  Najeeb Jung on Wednesday.

The key issues  which are likely to be discussed  during the  meeting are better utilisation of  CCTV camera feed, coordination between  police and  civil defence  volunteers,  lighting  of dark spots, steps required  to enhance  women safety  and proper coordination amongst the Government, legislators and police.

The AAP Government has  been taking several  measures  to strengthen  the safety and security of  Delhiites. In its  proposed  Budget, the  Government had allocated  Rs 1,068 crore  for women safety, security and  empowerment for  the next fiscal.

Finance Minister Manish Sisodia had said the Government had already installed 200 CCTV cameras in DTC buses.  He said the Government had made it mandatory  for all public  transport vehicles, including taxis to install GPS system for tracking  of the  vehicles.

For security of people on roads, in residential areas and overall  security  in the city, the Government  had proposed a new scheme  for installation of  CCTV  cameras and surveillance  system throughout  the  national Capital. An initial budgetary allocation of Rs 200 crore  under this scheme  has also been proposed in the  Budget.

Sisodia said  a total of 42,000 dark spots  have been identified  on 421  stretches  of roads  after  sharing  of information among  multiple agencies, including police and NGOs.  He said adequate arrangements  of lighting  on  these stretches will be completed in the next fiscal  and a provision of Rs 214 crore  has been made for providing lighting on the  identified  dark spots.

For providing  women safety, Mohalla Rakshah Dal  of Civil Defence  Volunteers  has been set up as a pilot project in the  Karawal Nagar Assembly constituency. The Government has proposed to set up the  Rakshah Dals  in all the Assembly seats in the next fiscal with a plan outlay of Rs 200  crore.

Even newly  appointed Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma had recently instructed  his  Deputy Commissioners to seek  regular feed-back from  their local  MlAs  and address their  grievances on a priority. He had also instructed  his  Joint Commissioner  to hold similar  interactions with the  seven BJP MPs in the city.
